Business Committee
Introduction
The Committee makes arrangements to present the business of the Presbytery and ensure that the items of business are timeously and efficiently dealt with. It allocates to relevant Standing Committees the remits of the General Assembly and from time to time will arrange for presentations on relevant topics to be made at meetings of Presbytery. It makes all necessary arrangements for services of ordination, induction etc. and for the celebration of Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.
It makes arrangements for visits to congregations by the Moderator and for Presbytery Sunday.
It has responsibility for Communication Strategy.
It acts as the Nomination Committee for appointments to Committees of Presbytery and nomination of Commissioners to the General Assembly, Representatives on the Commission of Assembly and Members of the Presbyterial Panel. It advises Presbytery on its representatives on Local Authority Committees etc.
It nominates, as necessary, an Interim Moderator who will not be a member of any of the congregations involved. It will also advise, through its Convener, on the appointment of the Interim Moderator in a situation when a vacancy is being processed by a Vacancy Procedure Committee.
It recommends to Presbytery the appointment by a Kirk Session of a locum tenens.
It also carries out such business as is remitted to it by Presbytery and may initiate business which lies outwith the remits of the Standing Committees.
