St Andrews Presbytery

Rev Jim Campbell

Rev James Campbell It is a real privilege for me to be elected Moderator of the Presbytery of St Andrews. It is now thirty years since I first came under the care of St Andrews Presbytery in September 1988 having left my first career as a teacher to enrol as a divinity student (and ministry candidate) at St Marys College. How time flies!
It has been a great adventure of learning and growing since then three idyllic summers working as a student minister in Wester Ross, probationary year in Bishopton in Renfrewshire followed by a year working with the Church in North Carolina. Then came fifteen years of Ministry in Selkirk and Ashkirk in the Borders. For the last eight years I have been minister of Ceres, Kemback and Springfield having actually first served as a student at Kemback way back in 1989!

The American experience was particularly formative for me. Firstly, I was inspired by their great emphasis on on-going Adult Christian Education that above all, the Church is a training school for disciples. Secondly, I was struck by the efforts taken in the church there to build strong Christian community around the table of welcome and hospitality. These two emphases have been central to my own ministry and I look forward to bringing these insights into my year as Moderator.
